Master Documentary Worskhop by Saad Khan

Pakistani filmmaker, Saad Khan, will be hosting a workshop on documentary filmmaking at SAID 2014. Saad will draw from his experiences in guerilla filmmaking in the South Asian setting. He will use examples from ongoing projects and his film ‘Hide and Seek,’ an award-winning documentary that has been screened at over 30 venues globally. Saad hopes to inspire and provide resources for budding documentarians on their journeys to visual storytelling and turn their ideas into action. This will be an interactive workshop, with ample opportunities for discussion and questions. Accompanying resources, with links to sites with information, will be Workshop Curriculum:

  • Visual storytelling and the importance of finding your voice
  • Identifying a topic or subject for the story
  • Logistical considerations for documentary filmmaking, including identification of resources and financing
  • Preproduction, production and postproduction procedures, including cinematography and editing
  • Preserving the ‘soul’ of the story or the voice of the subject
  • Importance of professional and creative collaborations beyond borders, using social media
  • Publicity and festival submissions for the completed project
